Article Series on Design Studio, Part 8: Portal Page Designer

Getting back to our Lawson Design Studio article series, we’ll explore some features of the Portal Page Designer.   Like the UI Designer, the Portal Page Designer includes two sets of tools:

  • The Portal Page Designer itself, which let’s you create composite pages from Lawson (and non-Lawson) application forms.
  • To create even more complex customizations, you combine JavaScript (including Design Studio-specific objects) with the Portal Page Designer.

    • Smart Office I am taking advantage of new Infor's new support of running Smart Office in a Citrix virtualized desktop environment. We ran into a nagging issue with this, however - new users were unable to use the SO Client, and instead were prompted with an 'unfortunate' SSL message. I didn't want our users to have to go through the SSL import process as (IMHO) this is not something they should have to deal with. Not an SSL expert, I recruited the assistance of our IT's Citrix guru (who is just awesome with SSL), and we have figured out the solution . This took me a week to troubleshoot, so I'm posting in case this saves someone else some headache. 1. Within the Grid certificate management console, I created a new 'override' self signed CRT certificate, which replaced the old certificate. 2. We RDPd into the Citrix virtual desktop server, navigated to the SO installation point URL, and imported the SSL certificate into our personal trusted root certificate store. 3. We fired up mmc.exe, installed the Certificate snap in for both 'Personal' & 'Local Computer' 4. Navigate to the personal certificate store and export the cert 5. Navigate to the 'Local Computer' certificate trusted root repository and import the certificate. That was it - now when users access the Smart Office client via the virtualized Citrix desktop, the system will accept the self signed certificate at the computer level, and will no longer prompt them to import the SSL cert into their personal trusted root store. They can now use the virtualized Smart Office client without issue. Issue resolved. So far, we have not experienced any negative consequences from this process.

          • Smart Office Issue: Smart Office does not display user jobs in the Navigation widget. I found the answer in $LAWDIR/system/ios.log. If one tester's job is invalid, Smart Office will not load the user's job list. Example: Old user job has a report distribution setup for a printer that no longer exists in jobdef. Resolution: perform a jobdump / jobload. The output from the jobload command will alert you to corrupted jobs that cannot load. These jobs can be fixed and re-loaded. Once all jobs are corrected, Smart Office will be able to create and display the joblist.xml file.

            • Smart Office As we prepare for the Infor Lawson 10 upgrade, we have begun the process of migrating users to the Smart Office interface. Our team is a mix of both LID & Portal users, and all will be moved to the Smart Office application. We have just started user testing in a new Smart Office 10.1.1.5 environment.

                • Paul We have a restriction on our contract loads. We can only load one vender per contract name. Does everyone have this restriction? If not can you tell me a patch I can use to load multiple vendors to a single contract name? We can load multiple PO 13 records to multiple vendors I find it weird we can not do the same for PO 25 records. Thank You Paul

Back in 2011, Lawson responded to an Alleged Patent Infringement by replacing Requisition Self-Service (RSS) with Requisition Center (RQC). In the meantime, Lawson has been acquired by Infor, but the patent case still lingers. Here’s an update. Some of you might have received this notice from Infor, and are unsure how this might impact your […]

                        Time To Rename LawsonGuru ?

With Lawson S3 and M3 customers adopting integrated Infor products, is it time to expand and rename the LawsonGuru Letter and LawsonGuru.com? I thought it would be fun to ask the community for advice. Here are some ideas:Filed under: Infor, Infor Acquisition

                        Inforum 2013

I just returned from Orlando, having attended Inforum 2013. Last year’s Inforum, which quickly followed the acquisition of Lawson by Infor, was really just a combination of Lawson’s annual conference (CUE) with Infor’s name and logo slapped on for good measure. This year was quite a different story. Starting with the fact that I was actually […]
