Lawson Cloud and Managed Services

Hi Mark. I work for the Eugene School District in Oregon and we are also exploring a hosted arrangement with Lawson. This is after our other service provider gave us notice of contract termination. We've been live on Lawson for 5+ years and just last year finished implmentation of our HR/PR and Financial applications. We are trying to explore all options at this time to see if we can continue using Lawson somehow. Also looking for other 3rd party hosting services. If we ever get cost estimates from Lawson sales staff we'll decide if we can afford to pursue that option or not. I would be interested in hearing about anything regarding your decision process regarding Lawson Cloud or other Lawson hosting services you might know about. Good luck in your endeavor. Paula

Hi Paula, Thank-you for the response. I am hoping to hear from a Lawson client that is currently using Lawson Cloud/Managed Services. They are pushing hard to sway us into that direction as we are reaching the end of our current hardware/infrastructure life-cycle and it is an option. The other option, is that we continue to use our own existing data center and and IT resources. So far, I have not heard from anyone on this site, that actually use Lawson Cloud (aka, Amazon.com) and/or their Managed Services. I will post our decision on this forum.

I have not used the Lawson cloud and managed services. I am using best cloud and managed services through netactivity.us. They are providing monthly Server and Desktop monitoring solutions at a fixed price that takes the worry and anxiety out of knowing that your systems are up and running. Often we know well before you do that there is an issue and we already started troubleshooting the problem.

About 2-3 weeks ago, we just had a talk with Infor about this option. It seemed to us at the time, if you were willing or already at a Windows platform that the solution was much more mature than any *nix-based solution which is what we were after.
Seemed like they had all of the answers ready and prepared assuming a Windows platform, and then we hit them with our Solaris Unix that we had in place already on-site. It seemed to me that they then had to re-formulate all of their answers and they weren't as ready with them. Although, I can see it coming, no matter your platform....

We are currently using Lawson Cloud and Managed Services. As a fairly new user to Lawson and having worked with other software in the past, I do not think this is an optimal solution. As we all know, there is no software that will work for everyone off the shelf, so you need to be able to make customizations based on your business needs. That is not possible when you are using Managed Services since Lawson seems to want to make it work the same for everyone. In the long run, whether you choose to go with in house staff or a managed service, the cost of having a system that you can make your own is worth it. Think about your ultimate goal and who should be the one in control.
