Mozilla removed the status bar from Firefox a fairly long time ago. While you can download extensions (such as Status-4-Evar) to mimic most of the functionality that was removed, I can't guarantee that any of them would restore the Portal's ability to display text down there.

Is there a reason why these individuals wouldn't be able to use IE alongside Firefox? Just because Firefox is set to be the default browser doesn't mean that it has to be the ONLY browser.

Thanks Sam.  No, I realize that Firefox doesn't have to be the only browser.  We primarily use IE so if there is a "default browser" here I guess it would be that.  There are a few people even using Chrome. 

 

This particular user has been using IE10 for some time.  The problem is that when she uses the test system she has to switch over to compatibility view for some reason in order for things to work correctly.  When in production she doesn't need compatibility view for portal to work.  She's a VP and is very frustrated having to switch back and forth all the time enabling and disabling CV.  

She also uses (and must use) Firefox for some other applications she uses a lot.  She said that if I can get the portal to work in Firefox (with the status bar working), she'd just as soon as always use Firefox. 

 

That's kind of a long answer to a short question but that's how it is.    Thanks for your input!

Unfortunately modern browsers have attempted to get rid of the status bar as the ability for pages to update the text on it direct (as the Portal does) was more often used for bad (phishing and scams) than it was for good (mostly business portal apps like Lawson) and the other functionality it provided could be better implemented in different locations.

As I mentioned, Mozilla stripped it out of Firefox, I don't believe Chrome ever had one, and IE has it turned off by default in pretty much every version post 9.

If one of the status bar extensions for Firefox doesn't work for you. And you can't figure out why your test and portal environments are requiring different compatibility settings then you might want to set IE up to force the test portal load in CV and see if that's a workable solution.

The "good" news is that Ming.le implements its own status bar as part of the "Portal" web part.
Not sure if they are going to (or already have) backport this to v901 or not...
