I am a relatively new HRIS (< 2 years) and am trying to wrap my head around how LAWSON should be setup/used to keep track of an employee's longevity/time in service. Obviously we use the Hire Date as the base/beginning point in time and Adjusted Hire Date is used in a variety of situations to reflect the fact that an employee either was re-hired or was reassigned/promoted or returned to work after a leave of absence. The piece that I am missing or not understanding is how to track an employee's longevity when over a period of years they are out on leave multiple times. For example, if an employee is initially hired in July of 2000 (7/1/2000), works 5 years, leaves for a year (2005 -2006), is re-hired in July 2006 (7/1/2006) and works 5 more years before taking another year off in July 2011 (July 2011-July 2012) and finally returns to work in July of 2012. (Dates made simple for example purposes). In summary:
7/1/2000 - 6/30/2005 5 years Hire Date 7/1/2000
7/1/2006-6/30/2011 5 Years Adj Hire Date 7/1/2006
7/1/2012- Present 2 Years ???
I am aware of Anniversary Date and Seniority dates that can be used to capture and store dates for longevity and service recognition but I don't understand how LAWSON gives me the ability to track dates when employees leave and come back multiple times. The first time the employee leaves employment, the Termination date gets populated. Upon coming back, LAWSON won't allow you to Re-Hire someone with a termination date. So, by deleting the Term Date (to complete a Rehire) you lose the date that they first left the company. (Can this be re-keyed and stored somewhere?) Does LAWSON have this capability already built in? It just seems to me that LAWSON doesn't have the capability to store and track multiple hire, leave, re-hire, leave, re-hire scenarios so that longevity can be caculated and reported.
Anyone have any insight on how this should be done correctly? Thanks.
Dave

Provided you have history turned on for the term date, it is stored in the HRHISTORY table. You can drill on it and see it. You would also be able to see gaps on the PA13.2 or by running a PA213. The PA13 references the PAEMPPOS table. You can also drill on position history.
These are a few of the ways that immediately come to my mind. I am sure others may have additional ideas.

The HRHISTORY table uses "FLD_NBR" to point to field names in another table.
What is the name of the table that the "FLD_NBR" field points to...??
