Looking for any suggestions on how to tie the Department Manager to the Department on HR02. Pondering adding a custom field
but wondering if anyone has used User Analysis for that? Department manager names in GLN_PERSON_RESP on GL20 aren't always maintained and aren't always correct. Appreciate any ideas.

We use superviosr codes tied to position codes.

Here the actual supervisor is tied to the position code on PA02 so there's no quick and easy way to pull out the department manager as it would be if there was a field for the responsible person on HR02.

Having a hard time visualizing the org chart there. Who fits where?

The org chart works because the HR07 structure is set up correctly - just can't tie it to department easily. If a DM has multiple departments reporting to them, you can create a DM record for every department and put the same person in all of them, but then in ESS they can only see the lowest numbered department to create requisitions. They want to put custom fields on HR02 to identify Department Manager and Division Manager.

We have supervisor attached to the position in HRO2 and I created an Access query using ODBC that pulls and summarizes departments and the supervisor assigned to a position in that department. We can have multiple supervisors in one department...each responsible for individual employees/positions.

We use the supervisor code as an attribute in GL20. Using quieries, we can see who is responsible for a department and thier reporting hierarchy. We use this for mulitple approval structures in other systems.

Veronica - I like the idea of this - would you see any problem adding two attributes - one for Department Manager and one for VP/Division manager? We don't have access to define templates but we are going to discuss with the appropriate people next week.
