    Hello Gurus,

We are performing an environment upgrade from 9.0.0 to 9.0.1 and an Apps upgrade from 8.1 to 9.0.1 (doing a two step upgrade all at once) and was looking for information on experiences with this upgrade.  At the same time we will be preforming an AIX upgrade (from 5.3 to 6.1), Tivoli upgrade (from 6.0 to 6.2 which also includes a DB2 upgrade to 9.5), and a Websphere Upgrade (from 6.1 to 7.1).  We are a Unix/Oracle shop with a Tivoli LDAP for Lawson.  I would like to know any problems or trouble points you may have encountered upgrading any of these components.  If anyone has a good idea of durations to upgrade these components (the actual upgrade not testing time etc) that would be helpful as well.  Actually any information is welcome.  I appreciate your help.

    Thanks.

    Matt

We just finished basically the same upgrade you are talking about three weeks ago. We set up a new LPAR with AIX 64 bit, 9.01 environment, and upgraded the apps from 8.1 to 9.01. We used Adam in place of tivoli for LDAP.

WIth the new LPAR we had new installs of the each piece (AIX, Websphere, etc). That set up of the server the first time ran about 2 weeks in total. We actually ran our upgrade cycles, testing, customizations and interfaces in the environment that would become our PROD and then built DEV later.

Go live weekend the upgrade started on Friday evening at 6pm and we turned the system over to users on Sunday morning 7am. There was some slack time in Saturday night and a few tasks we finished up on Sunday morning but in general we were about 36 hours. We also started our upgrade process before the skip upgrade was available so that would figure into our times that you may be able to avoid.

If you have questions at any point in the upgrade reach out to me. I would be glad to try to answer anything you might see.

How much data was involved in the upgrade? Do you use financials/HR and activities?

We're doing the same apps upgrade and have run two test upgrades, both with full-sized databases. Right now, we're projecting that the data conversion portion of the upgrade will take over 63 hours and are preparing our user community for an extended downtime. So you can get a sense of where our pain points are, here are the sizes for some of our larger files

          GLTRANS - 25,600,000+
          MMDIST - 22,500,000+
          ACTRANS - 14,000,000+

We run everything except the HR/Payroll suite, so that'll give you an idea of some of our other files, Lee. Right now, we have a somewhat unhappy set of data owners because of the downtime. Unfortunately attempting the skip-upgrademethod would require at least one more conversion pass and there's no room to put it in the schedule without pushing the target go-live date
