Moving Lawson Tables to a non-lawson database

A couple of questions:
1.) I assume you are using Oracle DB as that is a standard seemingly with unix
2.) If you have a separate Oracle DB for the 7.3 data, have you thought about leaving the data in place and just turning off the Unix. Allowing users to still connect via sql or crystal.

Leaving the tables in place would be the best solution but unfortunately not an option. The Oracle DB and the App sit on the same server. When the box is retired both will be lost (the want to retire the server and all maintenance overhead on the machine). Thanks.

the closest thing to what you are suggesting that we have done here is to create a product line and pull data from our old GEAC system. We created a product line, populated a oracle instance with data and then created 4 GL screens to do inquiry with.

As long as you can create the DB space and connect to it, you should be able to pull the data as needed

How big is this database?  Are you just looking for some of the tables?   I might be over simplifying this but you could just grab the individual tables you want and dump them into Access...   At least you would have the data...   A database person could easily move the individual tables into another database. 

Definitely a viable low-cost solution!=
