I would like to find out whetherwe can email a report to a directory instead of an email device ? Can this be done in LBI ?
We have a report that is scheduled manually every day to refresh. This report needs to be imported to a tool used for budgeting. Can I set a report to refresh on a schedule and then email the scheduled report to go to a directory instead of an email device ?

I think this makes this question the most popular question on this board.

one other way i thought of that i didnt mention in that thread is if you set up a virtual printer that prints to a directory. this still wont let you identify what is in the report but youd at least have the report in the directory. Additionally, you could create one virtual printer for each bursted iteration and in this way be able to save each report to its own directory. of course this would mean youd probably need to maintain hundreds of virtual printers.

Hi Matt,
What is the name of the application the 3rd party used?
Also Joe has written about the query he uses to read the LBi tables, But I do know that from LBI version 9.0.2.2 to 9.0.4.1 there was a significant change and some of my queries I wrote on LBI 9.0.2.2 did not work on 9.0.4.1 so I am not in favor of ggoing down the path of writing queries from LBI tables.

This is just a theory that I havent had a chance to put into practice. You could start with freeware such as

before committing to a more robust solution.
Im not sure about the table query route. Never explored that myself.

Ruma, regarding your original query you can use FTP to send files or report to any directory, network shared directories or even the outside world. This is a common practice.

Sam, Thanks for the reply. The answer is not so simple as FTP. The report that is refreshed every day by reporting services needs to be picked up by an interface engine that sends it to another tool. The location where the refreshed file is stored is on a location on the LBI server. Not everyone has access to this directory and in most places this is very secure with very limited access to other users or even other interface tools. The simplest would be to ouput the refreshed file to a location which is easy for an interface engine to pick up. FTP would have worked for any file that is static but in this case the output is more complicated, so a solution like FTP will not work.

Hi Matt, I need the ouput to be especially in a csv format or xls format and cannot have it in a pdf format. I will try the link that you posted and see what it does.
LBI email functionality has printer devices but according to Lawson the output can only be PDF otherwise I was planning to use a printer device setup to output it to a tricked printer directory, but now that solution will not work since, it can only output a PDF and not a csv.

Ruma: You could always refer to the schema diagrams included in the ERP section of this site to figure out what has changed, or at least how to modify your queries to make them functional again... I'm with you in the 'not in favor of' comment, but sometimes it's necessary.

Greg, I completely agree with you but I do not want to be in constant woner mode whether the query I built will break with next version upgrade of LBI so do I want to fix this with every version upgrade break. I want the solution to be robust and in place, without having it to constatnly change it.

Understand! And am completely with you on the 'don't want to fix it with every upgrade' deal!!

Ruma, Sorry that I'm not straightforward about my mention of FTP. Sure you can use ftp or secured ftp to just about anything. We use a third party interface engine called Axway (very expensive) to pickup and delivery any kind of files to just about anywhere (This include LBI, cloverleaf,Epic, cerner Banks, States etc). We use different protocols for different types of delivery like AS2, SFTP, FTPS etc. So like your query, we have a lots of pickup from lbi and delivers to just about any directories.

LBI can email XLS files, not just PDF. I don't do that any more but I used to do so and it was working fine.
